Uhh Pots? grew out of a lifelong relationship with indecision and second guessing. Rather than fighting those feelings, the practice embraces them, translating uncertainty into physical form. The name itself reflects that pause, that moment of questioning, and the work follows suit through layered imagery and intentional imperfections that feel both playful and unresolved.
The focus of the studio is functional tableware, grounded in traditional ceramic forms but disrupted through surface treatment. Each piece begins as a thoughtfully crafted vessel, made using a mix of wheel throwing and hand building techniques refined over more than seventeen years of practice. From mugs and bowls to plates and other tableware, structure and usability remain essential.
Surface decoration is where the work fully comes alive. Using slip transfers and screen printing techniques, hand drawn imagery is printed onto the clay in multiple layers. Misprints are not corrected or hidden, but highlighted and amplified with bold color. These layered surfaces turn familiar objects into something subtly off, inviting viewers to slow down and look again.
The imagery is central to the identity of Uhh Pots?. Each image is tied to a personal experience or story, though it remains intentionally ambiguous. That openness allows the work to hold multiple meanings at once, leaving space for anyone using the piece to connect it to their own memories, moments, or narratives.
All work is created at Terra Potta, a ceramic studio co op the artist helps facilitate and run alongside sixteen other makers. The shared studio environment supports experimentation, collaboration, and the ongoing exchange of ideas, making community a core part of the practice.
