Smar Art began as a creative outlet during the pandemic, when Sarah Mar started sharing her digital illustrations on Instagram. The name came from a nickname friends gave her in high school, blending her first and last names into “Smar,” which made for a simple and memorable name for her growing art practice. What started as a small drawing page has since grown into a stationery brand filled with vibrant, punny designs made for every occasion and every kind of home.
Sarah creates a range of stationery, with greeting cards at the heart of the collection and a particular love for finding the perfect pun to pair with each illustration. Many products are still printed in house from her studio apartment, while select pieces are produced in partnership with small printers throughout the United States. The process brings together digital illustration, playful writing, and a hands-on approach to production, keeping the work personal while allowing the collection to grow.
