Earthly Essentials was born from a deeply personal journey, one that began with frustration, research, and the desire to better understand what we put on our bodies. After experiencing severe hair damage from products marketed toward natural hair care, founder Lavascia Williams began questioning the ingredients hidden inside everyday self care routines. The more labels she read, the more she realized how disconnected many people are from the products they use daily and how closely wellness and self-care are intertwined.
That curiosity led Lavascia into a rabbit hole of learning, experimenting, and creating natural formulations from scratch inside her grandmother’s kitchen. Week by week, she developed and refined a deep conditioner using natural ingredients, slowly restoring her hair from dry and brittle to healthy, hydrated, and full of life. What began as a personal solution soon grew into something much larger, a desire to share that knowledge with others navigating similar experiences and to create products rooted in transparency, intention, and care.
Today, Earthly Essentials offers a collection of handmade natural hair and body care products including shampoo bars, deep conditioners, beard and hair oil mists, goat milk soaps, and rich body butters. Every product is made in small batches through a hands on process of melting, mixing, pouring, molding, and packaging by hand. Essential oils lightly scent many of the formulations, adding a subtle sensory layer without overwhelming the natural ingredients at the center of the products. Lavascia carefully considers every detail of her products, like the design of her shampoo bars, which feature small raised nodules intended to gently massage the scalp while cleansing. It’s a small but thoughtful touch that reflects the larger philosophy behind the brand: everyday care should feel intentional, comforting, and nourishing in more ways than one.
Earthly Essentials feels especially personal because the brand itself is an extension of Lavascia’s story, values, and growth. Every label, ingredient, and formulation reflects the same care and authenticity that first inspired her to begin creating products at all. There’s a warmth woven through the brand that feels deeply human and intentional.
Though the business has grown into an award winning Rhode Island brand, the process remains rooted in humble beginnings. Lavascia still creates everything from a dedicated corner of her apartment kitchen, surrounded by carefully organized supplies, her Best of Rhode Island awards, and nearby plants that bring life into the space. It’s a small creative corner filled with years of learning, persistence, and love.
