Pressed botanical art, homegrown blooms, and everlasting keepsakes created from flowers with a story to tell.
P.Etal.Preserves sprouted in 2023, when Ali Nicolas pressed flowers from her grandmother’s memorial service and transformed them into keepsakes for her family. As a stay at home mom looking for a creative outlet, Ali found herself drawn back to a lifelong love of making and the flowers growing in her own garden. Her interest in the historical art of flower pressing soon became a practice of its own, rooted in preserving the beauty and meaning found in the natural world.
Real flowers are the heart of every P.Etal.Preserves piece, with blooms that are homegrown, locally foraged, and carefully hand pressed before finding their way into wall art, home decor, and jewelry. Ali uses traditional slow pressing and air drying techniques, allowing each flower’s natural shape and character to remain part of the finished work. Her signature pressed flower découpage technique brings these botanicals onto ceramics, wood, and other materials, creating pieces that feel both delicate and lasting.
There is something deeply personal about the way Ali works, from growing flowers in her own garden to creating in a home studio shared with her children. Her earliest creative memories were spent alongside her grandfather in his renowned leather restoration studio in New York City, watching artists at work and learning new techniques. Today, that same spirit of curiosity, preservation, and making by hand continues at home, where her children sometimes create alongside her. P.Etal.Preserves also carries that sense of remembrance into wedding bouquets and memorial flowers, turning fleeting moments into something that can be held onto.
