Junque Shop was inspired by childhood afternoons spent thrifting, or affectionately called “piddlin”, with a grandfather who loved wandering through antique stores and eclectic boutiques. He would often jokingly call these places full of “J-U-N-Q-U-E,” meaning frivolous or unnecessary things. But through Emily’s childhood eyes, those same spaces felt magical, filled with whimsy, color, and discovery. When the time came to begin selling vintage in 2017, the name Junque Shop felt like the perfect way to honor that memory while embracing the beauty in the overlooked and the playful.

At its core, the work is centered on curating vintage pieces that feel fun, wearable, and full of personality. The collection spans clothing and accessories, each item chosen for the way it stands out, whether through color, pattern, or unique detail. There is a strong sense of joy behind the curation, with pieces that invite people to express themselves and not take fashion too seriously.

The process is rooted in a lifelong habit of collecting and searching. Sourcing happens in many different ways, guided by instinct and experience, always looking for those standout pieces that feel special. Each item is then carefully processed, cleaned, mended when needed, and prepared for its next life. Attention is given to every step, from initial discovery to final presentation, ensuring that each piece is ready to be worn and loved again.

What makes the brand feel unmistakable is its sense of play and whimsy. The collection leans into bright colors, bold patterns, and unexpected details, with a focus on styles ranging from the 1960s through the early 2000s. There is also a strong commitment to accessibility, offering a range of sizes and price points so that every person can find something that feels like them. The result is a collection that feels lighthearted, inclusive, and full of personality.

The work is carried out from a home space in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where every part of the process takes place. Laundry, mending, steaming, tagging, and organizing all happen within this environment, turning a personal space into a fully functioning vintage studio. It is a place of constant movement, where new finds come in and are transformed into pieces ready for their next chapter.

Fun Fact

The name Junque Shop is a direct nod to those childhood “piddlin” days, where what some might have called clutter became the very inspiration behind a lifelong love of vintage.
