Reversed Threads began while Fin Maloney was studying Environmental Science and volunteering as an events coordinator at a nonprofit university coffeehouse, hosting band nights and open mics between classes. He started making handmade upcycled merch for his coworkers, and when people began asking for pieces of their own, the idea for Reversed Threads began to take shape. What started as a creative project grew into a deeper calling, rooted in the belief that there is already enough clothing on Earth to dress the next seven generations.
Fin looks for the pieces most likely to be overlooked: wrinkled, stained, or otherwise considered too much work. Each garment is washed, restored, and given a new direction through handmade patches created from recycled materials, carefully collaged into an entirely original design. Buttons, hand drawn details, and other small touches become the finishing layer, giving each piece its own personality while keeping the character of what came before.
No two Reversed Threads pieces are ever the same. Each one develops naturally from the materials Fin finds, making every garment a true one-of-one. Most mornings begin at 6am with sewing before work, with additional making happening in the living room, at the library, or at the Makerspace where Fin also teaches others how to sew and use creative equipment. It’s a practice that turns the everyday act of getting dressed into something more thoughtful, playful, and personal.

“I think that most people don't know what upcycling is, and even fewer know how to sew. I think that the types of people who appreciate nostalgia, y2k, niche clothes, and sustainability will understand my brand and maybe even end up upcycling a thing or two at home as well! I want to connect with my community and meet other artists in order to create a platform where we can work together to make the world a better place, starting in PVD!” - Fin
