Arcadian Sun Co. grew from Aubrianne Roach’s lifelong love of jewelry and the influence of a great grandfather who was both a jewelry and lapidary artist. Jewelry had always felt sentimental, meaningful, and sacred, often gifted for special occasions and passed from one generation to the next. While shopping vintage estate jewelry in 2019, an idea planted early in Aubrianne’s life finally took root: she could learn to make jewelry with her own hands, just as the humans and ancestors before her had. After one eight week beginner’s class that fall, she’s been chasing that dream ever since.
Aubrianne works primarily in sterling silver, with accents of brass and bronze, incorporating natural gemstones often sourced from fellow lapidary artists as well as occasional lab grown gems. Her pieces come to life through hand fabrication and sandcasting. With hand fabrication, she shapes each bezel, cuts every ring band, and saws out each setting from raw sterling sheet and wire. For sandcasting, objects such as shells or original wax carvings are pressed into casting sand before being filled with molten sterling, creating pieces that are naturally unique from one casting to the next.
Arcadian Sun Co. is unmistakable in its rugged, earthy, and distinctly human character. Aubrianne isn’t interested in perfect pieces or jewelry that feels mass produced, but in creating work that feels unique while still carrying something familiar. Her cozy and chaotic home studio, filled with tools, gemstones, and a tortie cat who may or may not contribute to the mess, is where most of the work begins. When inspiration calls for a little more space, she can step outside to sit with her chickens and let new ideas take shape.
