Emily

Emily Says Good Morning was inspired by a love of early mornings and the ritual of starting the day with intention. As an early bird and barista, there has always been joy in offering someone their first smile or first spark of positivity. The name reflects that same hope for the artwork, to greet people warmly and make their days feel a little more beautiful. Morning energy often fuels the creative practice, making art the very first act of the day.

The work centers on both traditional and digital illustration, blending realism with a soft, nostalgic lens. Themes often explore femininity, fairytales especially the slightly darker ones, children’s book illustration, film, animation, and retro references. Each piece feels like a small window into a sweeter, dreamlike world, playful, detailed, and emotionally rich.

Traditional paintings begin with a careful colored pencil sketch built from reference, creating structure before layers of paint are added. Digital works are sketched and painted in Procreate, constructed in layers that allow for intuitive shifts in color and composition. Alongside paintings and prints, there are greeting cards and mini Polaroid prints that make the artwork feel collectible and intimate. Beaded accessories are created through bead weaving techniques using tiny seed beads to form charms inspired by food, animals, and other tiny treasures. These woven pieces become earrings, necklaces, and keepsake charms, small objects that feel joyful and personal.

A distinct and carefully curated color palette helps define the brand. Color is treated as emotion, warm, feminine, and intentional. References from vintage illustration and storytelling traditions add another unmistakable layer, creating work that feels nostalgic yet fresh.

Creation usually happens in a cozy apartment living room, often at a low coffee table with a cushion on the floor. Sometimes the workspace shifts to a bed layered in blankets, paired with cozy British mystery shows playing in the background. The atmosphere is intimate, comfortable, and quietly magical.
