Emily

Emily Says Good Morning was inspired by a love of early mornings and the quiet ritual of starting the day with intention. For Emily, being an early bird and a barista meant there was always something meaningful in offering someone their first smile, first cup, or first spark of positivity. That same feeling carries into the work, which is meant to greet people warmly and make everyday life feel a little more beautiful. Morning energy often fuels the creative process, making art the first thing Emily reaches for at the start of the day.

Working across traditional and digital illustration, Emily blends realism with a soft nostalgic lens. Themes often move through femininity, fairytales, children’s books, film, animation, and retro references, creating work that feels both playful and emotionally rich. Traditional paintings begin with a careful colored pencil sketch built from reference before layers of paint are added, while digital pieces come together in Procreate through a similarly layered and intuitive process. Alongside paintings and prints, Emily also creates greeting cards and mini Polaroid prints, as well as beaded accessories woven from tiny seed beads into charms inspired by food, animals, and other small treasures.

A distinct and carefully considered color palette helps define the brand, with color treated as emotion, warmth, and atmosphere. Vintage illustration and storytelling traditions add another layer of personality, giving the work a sense of nostalgia without losing its freshness. Much of it is created in a cozy apartment living room, often at a low coffee table or from a blanket covered bed with British mystery shows playing nearby. The setting is intimate and comfortable, and the work feels much the same.
