Citizens Crochet is all about creativity, community, and care, for the people making the work and the people receiving it. Founded by Avery Tronson, the brand creates beginner-friendly learn-to-crochet kits and handmade plushies designed to bring joy, spark creativity, and support ethical production every step of the way. From livable wages and profit sharing to thoughtful packaging and original tutorials, everything is made with intention.

Each project starts with a new crochet critter idea, designed by Avery and tested through at least five rounds of prototypes before it ever makes it into a kit or gets stitched up as a plushie. For finished plushies, Avery crochets them herself or works with local makers (because “I'm not trying to get arthritis at 30”). Every one gets tagged, packed with care, and sometimes nestled into little baskets with bows, like the adorable fruit whales you’ll spot at Bloom.

The learn-to-crochet kits go through just as much love. Avery designs the packaging, writes and films detailed video tutorials, prints inserts with QR codes, and winds the yarn into perfect portions for each project. It’s a full sensory experience, designed to be clear, encouraging, and fun, especially for beginners. The goal? To make crochet approachable, creative, and full of small wins.

Avery works primarily from her home office (which she shares with her partner), and also keeps a studio space at the Boston Figurative Arts Center in Somerville, where she stores supplies and shoots product photography. Through all of it, her driving belief stays the same: life is complicated enough- creativity should be joyful, healing, and simple.

Why Bloom?

“Truly the energy from Heather and Savannah. They have been trailblazing their way in the market scene for so long and the opportunity to kick butt in a retail space on Wickenden Street is one I'm so excited for. I always try to align myself with kick butt women and learn everything I can so this was the perfect fit.”- Avery, Citizens Crochet

Fun Fact

Avery’s been reminding herself that “done is better than perfect”, even when that’s easier said than done.
