Playful 3-D fiber art and tufted goods, handmade in Providence.

Founder Bones has been making since childhood—learning crochet at age 12 from a family friend, and later exploring mixed media and sculpture through high school and college. That early curiosity grew into a full practice rooted in 3-D fiber arts, with an emphasis on work that is colorful, approachable, and joy-filled.
At first glance, Built By Bones is all about vibrancy, texture, and a touch of the unexpected. Rugs, crochet pieces, and sculptural works are crafted to feel both nostalgic and new—drawing people in with bold palettes, silly details, and a spark of childlike wonder. Every piece is designed to stop you in your tracks, make you smile, and maybe even remind you of a side of yourself you’d forgotten.

Each rug or crochet project is handmade with intention, often combining secondhand yarns and high-quality fibers like wool and mohair to keep natural materials accessible. Rugs are built using both needle punch and tufting gun, then shaved down to add depth, dimension, and crisp lines between shapes. Crochet characters, including Built By Bones’ signature worms, embody the brand’s humor and playfulness—turning ordinary fibers into conversation starters.
The “studio” is anywhere inspiration strikes: crocheting on the couch with a horror movie on, tufting in the basement, or working outdoors on a good day. Wherever the work happens, it’s always rooted in a mix of skill, silliness, and sincerity.
