Awkward Auntie

Awkward Auntie began when its creator, a communications consultant by day, made something for herself while settling into a new apartment. What started as a simple attempt to bring plants back into her home turned into an experiment with concrete molds, dyes, and shapes. The first pieces were gifts for friends and family, who quickly started requesting more and encouraged her to start selling them. The name comes from a blog she once kept about being an auntie, an identity she still proudly claims.

Each piece is crafted by mixing, dyeing, and pouring cement into silicone molds, often accented with crushed glass for a crystal inspired finish. Once cured, every item is sealed for durability. Because of the nature of poured concrete, no two pieces are the same. The colors swirl differently, the textures shift, and the molds reveal their own quirks. Instead of fighting that, Awkward Auntie leans into it. The work celebrates the beauty of imperfection and embraces the idea that concrete will always have a mind of its own.

This commitment to individuality is what makes the brand unmistakable. Every piece, whether a wine stopper, vessel, magnet, or decorative accent, has its own personality. The unpredictable character of concrete has become part of the story, reflecting the artist’s willingness to let go of perfection and trust the process.

All of the making happens in the basement of her parents’ home, a space they generously offered and that now serves as her workshop. It is a little dark, but the creative energy there is unmatched and continues to shape the direction of her work.
