Sydney Bienstock

At first glance, Syd Collage’s work feels like stepping into a playful alternate universe — one where foxes strike poses in cocktail dresses and owls sport crisp blazers. Each piece begins the old-fashioned way: scissors, glue, and thrifted paper ephemera. Syd sources every image from secondhand books and vintage magazines, selecting textures and tones that feel alive with story.

Her process starts with the outfit — a shirt, dress, or jacket that sets the tone — followed by an animal head carefully matched to the skin tone of the human body beneath it, creating an uncanny sense of realism. Using washi tape for composition and double-sided tape for permanence, Syd layers personality into each collage, often scanning and refining details in Photoshop for a crisp final touch.

What makes her work unmistakable is its voice. Every character seems mid-conversation, caught between the human and the animal world, blending wit with quiet introspection.

Why Bloom?

“I wanted to share my art with my local community — Bloom felt like the right place to do that.”

Fun Fact

Syd’s childhood dog, Winnie — a spirited chorkie is still around and may just be the muse behind it all. As a kid, Syd used to dress Winnie in Build-A-Bear clothes, a habit that might’ve sparked her lifelong fascination with blending creatures, characters, and couture.
